09 June 2017 | Newsletter
After 7 weeks of campaigning, the UK electorate headed to the polls in an election that was supposed to deliver Prime Minister Theresa May an electoral landslide.
What the public delivered was a Hung Parliament with the Conservatives short of a majority. So once again, a UK Prime Minister has called an electoral gamble, rolled the dice and failed. A gamble that rattled the financial markets, with the pound falling dramatically against a host of currencies and was trading around 1.5 percent lower against the dollar, at $1.275.
Now, the UK does not have a Government with a commanding majority, a Prime Minister facing calls to resign and Brexit negotiations are due to start in 11 days.
