After 7 weeks of campaignin­g, the UK electorate headed to the polls in an election that was supposed to deliver Prime Minister Theresa May an electoral landslide. 

What the public delivered was a Hung Parliament with the Conservati­ves short of a majority. So once again, a UK Prime Minister has called an electoral gamble, rolled the dice and failed. A gamble that rattled the financial markets, with the pound falling dramatical­ly against a host of currencies and was trading around 1.5 percent lower against the dollar, at $1.275.

Now, the UK does not have a Government with a commanding majority, a Prime Minister facing calls to resign and Brexit negotiatio­ns are due to start in 11 days.
