US Flights Delayed and Cancelled Because of Severe Weather

US flights delayed or cancelled because of severe weather, with JFK and Jackson-Hartsfield the most impacted.

843 flights were affected across four major US airports of Detroit Metro, Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson, JFK and LaGuardia over the weekend, with 700 flight delays and 143 flight cancellations, according to Travel and Tour World.

Airlines including Air Canada, Delta, American Airlines, Jet Blue and WestJet were impacted by the cancellations and delays during the peak summer travel period in the United States.

The severe weather that hit the US was focused in two main areas, with heavy rain hitting the northeastern part of the country, and strong winds in the south.

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, the world’s busiest airport hub by passenger numbers, was the airport most impacted by the severe weather, with 223 delayed flights and 12 cancellations.

Delta Airlines, Atlanta’s dominant carrier, had 162 delayed flights, estimated to be 9% of its total flights, but yet as TTW reports, did not have any cancellations.

Meanwhile, JFK, recorded the second highest number of cancellations and delays after Atlanta, with 121 delays and 17 flights cancellations after being hit by strong coastal winds.
